How I Got Involved with @UniteBlue & Why I Wholeheartedly Support It & @140elect!

No one can prevent RWNJ spamming tricks or guarantee a tweeter won’t be targeted by them and suspended; but, the Twitter system DOES make newcomers with low follower numbers much more susceptible to dirty tricksI know because I WAS targeted and suspended more than once when I was new to Twitter and had low follower numbers!  High follower numbers will NOT prevent one from being suspended; it happens all the time, but low numbers definitely puts one at risk.  One of my unjustified suspensions came on the DAY of the Wisconsin recall election; I had been actively tweeting in support of the recall and encouraging people to go to the polls and vote! (See details on my blog BewareTheBelievers.com)  Many of my followers were suspended during the lead up to the November 2012 election and afterwards.  During that time, I regularly received DMs informing me of liberals’ suspensions due to RWNJ dirty tricks.

After my Wisconsin suspension, I searched the internet for details on Twitter dirty-trick suspensions and what Twitter was or could do to stop.  I was very disappointed to find that Twitter was TRYING to do something; but, thus far, was not up to the tech challenge!  I began asking suspended tweeters questions about their tweets immediately prior to the suspension and the Twitter names of RWNJs involved.  I began keeping a list of names in hopes of finding out who was organizing the dirty tricks and finding a way to stop them.

At the same time, I was trying to develop a method to help liberals avoid spam attacks, especially newcomers, and to find a way to distribute information to them on how to tweet smart with unknown tweeters to avoid unjustified suspensions.  I was using a method that appeared to work and was telling as many tweeters as I could through DM (Twitter direct message); but I discovered that ZachGreen@140elect & others were using a similar process.  AND, Zach’s was a notch better and easier than mine! 🙂  So, I began telling tweeters about his method through Twitter DM but that’s a slow and inefficient process!  @UniteBlue solved that problem!  Thousands of liberals can now be notified/updated immediately when RWNJs change their tactics; and, through @UniteBlue, methods for responding can also be instantly communicated!

I first discovered @UniteBlue in November, 2012; I was ecstatic about its possibilities and immediately joined.  Unfortunately, I was off Twitter for most of January and February.  When I returned I was amazed at the lightening-speed growth of the site and ALL the added features to help liberals/progressives/Dems/lean lefties organize!  But, I was also furious about all the attacks on Zach and the @UniteBlue site!  Zach was actively involved and tirelessly supported ALL my Twitter November 2012 election and “get out the vote efforts”!  He was very influential in a couple of my tweetbombs actually trending!  He worked tirelessly in all our liberal efforts and started numerous, very successful tweetbombs for liberal causes and supported them fully.

I found out about #UniteBlue when I checked Zach’s profile, as I usually do with all my followers but more so on the very active, like-minded ones. 🙂  Until that time, all I knew about Zach was that he was someone I followed on Twitter who followed me back and I loved  his passion, style, and support! 🙂   During all our mutual work on tweetbombs, Zach was NOT hawking or trying to sell me anything!  When I checked his profile, I clicked on his url and the @UniteBlue world was opened for me!  There were links to ZachGreen@140elect and as much detailed information provided for background as I have seen on any site I’ve ever visited!  I was so happy that Zach had created a way to not only help us all to avoid unjustified suspensions but had developed a very robust way for us to organize our Twitter efforts!

I have no doubt that Zach’s creating @UniteBlue will be one of the most  important events to help liberal causes in years to come.  The @UniteBlue Twibbon for Twitter (http://twibbon.com/support/uniteblue/twitter)  has contributed enormously to the lightening-speed growth of connected liberals.  With the current state of politics, we are on the edge of MAJOR change.  We’ve re-elected POTUS with huge popular numbers; but, the GOP through gerrymandering maintains political power in congress.  We can allow the GOP to distract and gain voters with their shiny objects of “true intelligent conservatism” while they actually pass offensive anti-immigration, anti-women, anti-gay, anti-LIBERAL laws OR we can use @UniteBlue’s extremely efficient, well-designed method to connect and communicate to get the political power we so desperately need.  I WHOLEHEARTEDLY choose to support @UniteBlue and hope you will do the same! 🙂
