How @UniteBlue Will HELP Stop RWNJ Dirty Tricks Suspending Liberals!

One of my unjustified Twitter suspensions came on the day of the Wisconsin recall election!  I was somewhat new to Twitter.  Don’t remember my exact followers number but was below 1,000.  I had been very actively tweeting for Walker’s recall and encouraging people in Wisconsin to go to the polls and vote.  My activity had attracted RWNJs like bees on honey (I’m trying to clean up my language for the faint of heart. LMAO  I wasn’t really concerned about my response tweets to them and had no idea I had wondered into the truly evil, conniving side of the RWNJ movement that uses abhorrent methods to squash the free speech they so loudly proclaim to want to protect!

I was stunned and absolutely furious when I tried to sign in to Twitter the morning of the Wisconsin vote only to find I had been suspended!  The reason Twitter gave was that I had broken the rules, no spamming allowed; and, IF I would agree to stop my illegal behavior, my account would be reinstated!  There were NO other options given and I was shocked that the only option was basically to ADMIT I was guilty of breaking the rules!  I wrote several emails to Twitter support asking for specific examples of my tweets that broke the rules.  Long story, but my account was reinstated the NEXT DAY, too late for the Wisconsin election “get out the vote’ effort!

Since that time, many of my followers have let me know about other numerous unjustified liberal suspensions.  Twitter is making a valiant effort to prevent unjustified suspensions but have been unable to keep up with the tactics used by the RWNJs. @UniteBlue cannot guarantee liberals won’t be suspended BUT when you join the group of connected liberals/progressives/Dems/lean lefties, your follower numbers will go up.  High follower numbers will NOT guarantee that you will not be the target of an unjustified suspension because tweeters with high follower numbers are suspended all the time.  BUT having a low number of followers definitely puts you at risk for an unjustified RWNJ dirty trick of reporting your account for spamming.  Just think about it; if you have below 500 followers and on any one day numerous accounts report you for spamming, the system may check some things but it’s more than likely going to suspend you and you’ll get the auto letter I received!  But, if you have a much higher number of followers, and numerous accounts report you for spamming, the system is less likely to think the reports are true.  It’s a computer system! It goes by the numbers!

Also, @UniteBlue makes it easier for liberals to distribute information about how to tweet smart with unknown or suspicious tweeters like putting a “period” before their @ name.  The Twitter system considers spam to be sending numerous tweets to numerous @ names (it’s actually much more detailed but won’t go into here); but a “period” before the @ name makes it “about” the tweeter not “to” that tweeter.  So, when system checks, it won’t find those spam tweets you’ve been unfairly reported for sending!  You can gossip “about” a tweeter! 🙂  There are also tips on tweeting on the site such as don’t engage with RWNJs; but, sometimes, I need entertainment and will, as I’m sure do other liberals. 🙂  Tweeting only to those who agree with me is wonderful; but, if we want to get information out to the low-info voter we must engage them as some point.  But, I have begun to limit my RWNJ responses to two tweets and then I block them so I’m not tempted to feed my addiction! 🙂

@UniteBlue also is a fantastic site to stay up-to-date on liberal causes and to connect with some amazing  tweeters!  I wandered in Twitter wasteland for way too long, connecting with other like-minded liberals but at a very slow pace.  I have found so many intelligent, highly informative, and hilariously entertaining liberal tweeps during the last two weeks that I’m actually stunned and overwhelmed.  But I MUCH prefer stunned/overwhelmed to wandering in the wasteland! 🙂  The @UniteBlue Twitter Twibbon (the blue double D on Twitter avatars; you can get it at http://twibbon.com/support/uniteblue/twitter) has enabled the lightening-speed growth of this group and our political power/voice grows with each new member!

Thank you! I had wondered about the period before the @symbol.

One member of the truly unethical group keeps tweeting to me that the period before the @name is of no value and useless. There may have been some changes in the Twitter system; but I’m certainly not going to take his word for it. 🙂 I am familiar with how systems work and have experience in troubleshooting them; and, until Twitter changes their description/definition of terms or let’s me know otherwise, I will continue to use the period before the @ name when I am tweeting to someone I don’t know/trust. 🙂
